Eamonn Holmes joined by former co-star Penny Smith as presenter joins GB News: ‘Just like old times’

Eamonn Holmes will soon be reuniting with his former GMTV co-star Penny Smith, who will be joining him on The People’s Channel.

The popular pair will present GB News Breakfast for one week only next Monday and Tuesday, marking Penny’s debut on Britain’s biggest news channel.

Their on-screen reunion comes exactly 20 years after Penny appeared on Eamonn’s final GMTV show in 2005.

Penny, a seasoned broadcaster whose career spans Sky News, Classic FM, BBC Radio London, TalkRadio, and Magic Classical, said she was excited to join the GB News family.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Eamonn again, and what a joy to be waking up the nation once more, bringing them the latest news with a healthy dose of fun along the way,” she said, adding: “It’s just like old times – only better.”

Eamonn, part of the GB News Breakfast team that has won three consecutive TRIC Awards, welcomed her return.

He said: “I’m delighted to be working with Penny again after all these years. I’m sure all our viewers and listeners on GB News Breakfast will love her.”

Penny’s arrival comes as GB News cements its position as Britain’s biggest news channel.

The People’s Channel recently overtook Sky News and the BBC News Channel, with official BARB figures showing GB News consistently leading its rivals during the prestigious Breakfast slot.

In June, GB News Breakfast won Best News Show for the third year in a row at the 56th Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards, beating BBC Breakfast and ITV’s Good Morning Britain in the viewer-voted category.

Presenters Eamonn, Ellie Costello, Anne Diamond, and Stephen Dixon were all praised for their warmth, insight, and strong connection with viewers.

Ben Briscoe, GB News’ Head Of Programming, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Penny to GB News Breakfast.

Reuniting her with Eamonn Holmes after 20 years promises the perfect mix of warmth, wit, humour and razor-sharp insight – just what our viewers love to wake up to.”

Smith started her career on the former GMTV, becoming the show’s main presenter of the Reuters News Hour.
